Shrimp

Simple to eat and easy to prepare, shrimp is one of the most popular seafood options for those who need to host a party. It can be served in a wide variety of fashions and since an individual shrimp is so small it makes for the perfect finger food. Here at Anderson Seafoods, we carry a wide assortment of the highest quality shrimp to ensure you can find just what you are looking for.

How Can You Catch Shrimp?

There are a few different ways to catch shrimp and these methods mostly depend on whether they are farm-raised or caught in the wild. In general, shrimpers use fine nets to scoop up the shrimp, giving them the perfect method to catch large groups at a time. Like most sea creatures, shrimp typically travel in large groups, which makes this the preferred method. For farm-raised shrimp, they are collected even more easily, as they swim in a controlled environment. This method of raising shrimp in a farm and catching them in a controlled environment is known as aquaculture.

Origin of the Various Shrimp

With a wide variety of different shrimp out there, it can be difficult to nail down a single origin. Most shrimp are found in salt waters, but some actually live in fresh waters like lakes and fresh-water rivers. They tend to stay towards the bottom of the ocean in the wild and live in warmer waters. Specifically, wild shrimp are caught most often around Mexico or similar areas. We also catch some shrimp in Thailand, India, and Vietnam, though some of these are farmed. Regardless of whether it is caught in the wild or farmed, the water quality is important.

Coconut Breaded Shrimp

One of the most popular options for those who want an already-prepared shrimp, the coconut breaded shrimp provide a delicious coconut accent. To prepare, these farmed shrimp are simply coated in a coconut breading and then lightly pan fried to achieve the perfect flavor. They are then frozen and sent out for you to enjoy. When you receive them, all you have to do is put them on a baking sheet, preheat the oven to 450 degrees, and cook for 20 minutes. Make sure to flip halfway through for an even cook. Since they come prepared, it takes away a lot of the time and energy involved otherwise.

Cooked White Shrimp-16/20 P&D-Tail On

Already peeled, deveined, and cooked for you, these frozen shrimp are another fantastic option for those who want to avoid hassle. If you want to go the easiest route, you can simply place them in the refrigerator about 24 hours before you intend to enjoy and just take them out when they are done defrosting. Otherwise, you can also add some seasoning and gently steam to serve with butter, or you can even add breading and deep fry them if you prefer. Like the coconut shrimp, the advantage of having a precooked dish is that preparation can be as easy as you want it.

Shrimp Skewers

Perhaps the simplest of the shrimp you might order online, shrimp skewers make for the perfect party option. Each skewer offers 15 shrimp farm raised and processed from Guatemala. This ensures a steady production without harming the indigenous population of the area, which could otherwise be harmful to catch. Naturally, these shrimp are peeled, deveined, and the tail is removed before shipping. They are then frozen, giving you the best freshness when you defrost them for 12-24 hours. Simply throw them on the grill for a minute on each side and you’ll have the perfect summertime snack.

Wild Mexican Shrimp-21/25 (P&D/Tail On)

One of the premier options for those who have a sophisticated palate, wild caught Mexican shrimp offer an absolutely delicious flavor. These shrimp are shipped in a 2 lb. bag, which contains about 44 of them frozen and ready for action. Like the other shrimp, make sure to defrost them properly in the refrigerator prior to use. From there, you can prepare them just as you would any of the other shrimp. Keep in mind, these are already peeled and deveined for your convenience.

Wild Mexican Shrimp-U/12 (P&D/Tail On)

Another high quality option for those who want to spend extra on the wild caught option, these larger shrimp ship in a 2 lb. bag and contain 20 on average. These also come peeled and deveined for your convenience and it cannot be stressed enough the importance of proper defrosting. Thaw them out overnight and prepare them the next day with some simple seasoning and a few minutes in the frying pan, or use your favorite shrimp recipe.

Wild Mexican Shrimp-U/12 (Shell On)

Finally, these large wild Mexican shrimp are available with the shell still on. Like the peeled and deveined ones in this size, they ship with about 20 to the 2 lb. bag, giving you plenty to work with. Having them frozen with the shell still on preserves the original flavor and really unlocks the potential of this wild caught variety. Of course, beyond just thawing them out properly, it is important that you also make sure to peel them properly before cooking. From there, use any of your favorite shrimp recipes and enjoy. These wild caught shrimp work exceptionally well with just a light frying in olive oil and then can be added to pasta for a delicious combination.

Seafood Medley

Shrimp is great, but it can be even better if you serve it with a greater variety of different ingredients. This seafood medley is prepared with shrimp, calamari rings, bay scallops, and Alaskan cod chunks. They are harvested, processed, and frozen all in a single day, which helps to preserve the initial freshness that you would expect. Since they are prepared from the package, you have the option to defrost for 12-24 hours in a refrigerator and then serve or you can prepare them in a some other ways. They make a delicious combination with soup, or simply fried in olive oil for three minutes or less and add them to pasta.
